CHAPTER 3

THE FAREWELL THAT MARKED A BEGINNING (2013–14)

Every significant journey begins with a silent moment of surrender. Before the letter of May 2014 was written, before I walked into the PMO, before this mission took shape, there was another moment — a deeply personal, life-altering decision.

In late 2013 and early 2014, I stood at a crossroads.

On one side was Green Mall, the work of my hands and heart. A flourishing environmental mission I had built painstakingly over decades. A place that had become a sanctuary of plants, learning, music, hope, and ecological awakening.

On the other side was a calling I could no longer postpone — a calling to serve Bharat Mata by bringing out the hidden truths of our civilization, truths I had gathered over 35 years of travel, study, and research, truths that had the power to awaken a nation.

I knew that if I did not act then, I would fail myself… and fail my Motherland. And so, with a heavy heart but a clear mind, I decided to step away from my environmental mission temporarily. I wrote a farewell letter — a message that came directly from my soul. In it, I explained why I was withdrawing from an active role, why I needed solitude, and why truth had become my foremost duty.

I moved to Mount Abu, seeking silence, discipline, and spiritual strength. There, surrounded by mountains and meditation, spiritual environment of Brahmakumaris, I prepared to write Glories of India — the book that held the essence of my 25-year quest.

This chapter presents that farewell message exactly as it was written earnest, honest, and filled with purpose.

Farewell Letter from His Children (2013–14)

Dear Friends,

We, Roshni, Chandni, and Dinmay, are writing to share an important message about our father, Dinesh Chandra Rawat.

After many years of leading Green Mall and working tirelessly for the cause of environmental awareness, our father has decided to move on to his next mission. He will be stepping away from the day-to-day responsibilities of Green Mall to devote himself fully to his long-pending civilizational work titled “Glories of India.”

We would like to share a brief outline of his journey so far, as many of you have been part of it.

More than ten years before the world started speaking seriously about global warming and climate change, our father had already understood the dangers ahead. Instead of waiting for others to act, he chose to take steps on his own. In 2002, he left the comfort of Kolkata and shifted to the village of Samukpota to live closer to Nature and inspire others to respect it.

While the world discussed climate change through conferences, reports, and speeches, he always believed that real change must happen on the ground. He often said that our modern lifestyle, consumerism, pollution, and deforestation were taking us towards destruction, and unless we changed our thinking, no amount of global dialogue would help.

At the peak of his business career, he decided to give up everything—his successful international trading companies in Singapore, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and even his Export House in Kolkata. He opened a Brahma Kumaris Spiritual Centre and began teaching meditation and values free of cost.

He continued his environmental mission alone, never seeking support from any institution, organisation, or government. In 2006, he assisted the Indian Botanical Garden, Howrah, in rejuvenating its Palm Collection, including the pollination of the rare Lodoicea maldivica palm.

In 2007, he submitted a proposal to beautify Kolkata through urban forestry. He also realised that the people of Bengal loved greenery but lacked access to good plants and proper guidance. This is why he created Green Mall in 2007, using his own resources. It soon became India’s first integrated centre for gardening, landscaping, and forestry, with more than 2,500 plant varieties and 250 types of palms.

During these years, he authored “Palms for India” (2008), presented the “Let’s Make India Green” plan to the Prime Minister (2008), released Prakriti Ki Pukar and Prakriti Vandana (2010), founded Prakriti Bandhu (2011), wrote “Green Your Surroundings” (2012), and launched the Grow Trees Programme (2013), through which one million trees were planted in South 24 Parganas.

Throughout this journey, he faced many challenges and sacrifices. But he never lost his faith, discipline, or determination. He lived the values he taught and became a role model for all of us.

Now, he feels it is time to move on. His next mission is to research and write the true history of Bharat and bring out a series of books under the title “Glories of India.”

To dedicate himself fully to this work, he has decided to move from Kolkata to Mount Abu. He has chosen a special date for this transition — 15th February 2014 — which is his birthday and also his wedding anniversary.

We want to thank every friend, customer, supporter, and well-wisher who has encouraged him throughout this long journey. Green Mall will always remain close to his heart, but now he must walk towards a deeper purpose.

Thank you for your support.

Warm regards, Roshni Rawat Chandni Rawat Dinmay Rawat

A Turning of Pages…
A Turning of Life!

That farewell letter was not an end. It was the beginning of a civilizational mission.

From Mount Abu, the journey that led to the May 2014 letter, the PMO visit, the years of silence, and finally this book — all of it unfolded from the seed planted by that farewell.

In the chapters ahead, we will now enter the heart of the book: each point of the May 2014 letter, expanded into full evidence-based chapters, one by one.
